Tiles – Timeless Design and Lasting Function

Tiles remain a classic and ultra-functional surface choice. Durable, easy to maintain, and resistant to both humidity and heavy use, they are suitable for every room in the house — from bathrooms and kitchens to living rooms and outdoor terraces.

At SUSTY, we carefully select design tiles from dormant stocks, focusing on high-quality materials such as porcelain stoneware, natural stone, terracotta, and travertine.

Understanding Tile Materials

Choosing the right tile starts with understanding the material. Each offers unique technical characteristics:

Porcelain stoneware is the most versatile option: ultra-resistant, waterproof, and stain-repellent. It can be used on walls or floors, in any room. Available in a wide range of finishes and looks: concrete, marble, wood, parquet effect, travertine, natural stone... with matte, polished, textured, or non-slip surfaces.

Note: Porcelain tiles come in three grades: standard porcelain, through-body porcelain, and full-body porcelain.

Other classic tile materials include:

  • Faience: a lightweight clay tile ideal for walls, especially in humid rooms.

  • Natural stone (e.g. travertine, slate): perfect for warm, authentic aesthetics.

  • Mosaic and cement tiles: appreciated for decorative patterns, often used for backsplashes or vintage styles.

  • Zellige and azulejos: hand-glazed tiles (white, black, or colored) bringing character and exotic flair to walls.

Style and Visual Impact

Tile design sets the tone for any space. Choose among:

  • Wood, stone, or marble effect: textured finishes that mimic natural grain, for a warm, organic feel — easy to maintain.

  • Terrazzo: bold and graphic, made with chips of natural stone or marble in cement. Ideal for walls or floors, indoors or out.

  • Concrete effect: minimalist and ideal for modern or industrial interiors.

  • Metro tiles: a staple for retro bathrooms and kitchens.

  • Hexagonal, scalloped, or diamond shapes: create custom patterns for a unique layout.

  • Rectangular tiles: visually enlarge small rooms.

  • Large-format tiles (60×60 cm or more): enhance spaciousness.

  • Small-format tiles and mosaics: perfect for textured effects in wet rooms.

Kitchen Tiles – Design That Stands Up to Daily Life

Kitchen floors require tiles that resist impact, stains, and moisture. Matte or glossy porcelain tiles in wood, concrete, or cement tile effects are ideal.

For backsplashes, combine style and easy maintenance with metro tiles, zellige, faience, hexagons, or decorative cement-look designs.

Toilet Tiles – Small Spaces, Big Ideas

Compact spaces like WC rooms are perfect for experimenting with patterns and layouts. Use graphic tiles, mosaics, or Art Deco motifs to add personality.

Floor tiles can coordinate with the bathroom or provide a bold contrast.

Tiles for Living Areas – Living Room, Dining Room, Hallways

For high-traffic rooms, porcelain stoneware is the best choice: durable, stylish, and low-maintenance. It perfectly replicates stone, wood, or concrete, in a wide range of sizes.

Want a cozy vibe? Try wood-look or natural stone-look tiles. For a sleek or industrial effect, go for concrete, cement, or terrazzo finishes.

Plank, square, or XXL formats allow your flooring to become a central design element.

Bedroom Tiles – Comfort Meets Style

Bedrooms, less exposed to humidity, welcome wood-effect tiles for a soft, cozy atmosphere. They offer the look of real parquet without the hassle or maintenance. Add a large rug for a cocooning finish.

Outdoor Tiles – Built to Withstand the Elements

Terraces, pool areas, and balconies need tiles that resist frost, UV rays, and moisture. Outdoor tiles visually extend the interior space and add elegance to gardens.

Opt for marble-look or cement-style tiles for a vintage touch. Choose non-slip tiles rated R11 or higher, with a thickness of at least 2 cm (especially for raised installation on pedestals).

Tile Installation and Maintenance Tips

At SUSTY, we offer a curated selection of high-end tiles from dormant stocks, and we guide you through proper installation and care for a long-lasting, beautiful result.

How to Prepare and Lay Tiles Correctly

Before installation, ensure your surface is clean, dry, stable, and flat. Uneven surfaces reduce adhesion and durability. You can lay new tiles over an existing floor if the proper adhesive is used and floor height is accounted for (especially at door thresholds).

Installation techniques vary by layout preference:

  • Straight lay: clean and minimalist — requires precision.

  • Offset lay: softens rigid alignment and hides imperfections.

  • Diagonal lay: opens up the space visually.

  • Checkerboard lay: alternating colors for dynamic contrast.

Apply tile adhesive with a notched trowel along guide lines. After 24 hours of drying, finish with grout.

Caring for Your Tiles

One of the main advantages of tile is its easy maintenance. Follow these simple steps to keep your surface pristine:

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dust and debris.

  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent suited for tiles (avoid abrasives).

  • For stubborn stains or grout: use hot water with white vinegar — a natural, effective solution.

  • Black soap is also ideal for cleaning porcelain tiles while leaving a fresh scent.

Finish by drying with a soft cloth to avoid water marks and preserve natural shine.
